Things I Loved:
- Dean fixing Castiel's clothes. Castiel failing as an FBI agent and going "Demons! Demons!" Castiel looking terrified in the brothel. Actually Castiel failing at passing for a rational human being is something that will please me for a long time. I always love narratives about learning how to be human, and characters failing completely and honestly at it because they are so new to the world. For example, Anya's childlike bewilderment in The Body (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), or any of those stories where it's like "Robot learns how to be human slash have feelings." Anyway, Castiel being in turns badass and naive will never cease being interesting to me, nor his bffness with his favorite human.
- The way Raphael talked. I would like him to read me the phone book. I'd actually love for him to be a major player, though not necessarily an antagonist straight up. It's gotta suck to think that not only did your Father leave you, but that God's been gone for awhile. That the Apocalypse will just finish it — be it suicidal paradise or simply nihilism — makes a frightening kind of sense. I liked the germ of doubt about Lucifer saving them that was planted, and I kind of hope it stays ambiguous. Kind of like the semi-ambiguous ending of Houses of Holy.
- Raphael's wings. I love how startlingly elemental angels are on this show, all boiling seas and lightbulbs shorting out and hailstorms and being chained to comets. I can imagine that being in the same room as an angel would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and you'd have no idea why. I hope we never actually see wings a fluffy birdwings.
- Sam being ace at darts. Sam being mysterious loner mystery hunter guy. Sam bar-tending. Sam being angsty but trying to be straight and narrow, trying to do the right thing. I do love you Sam, especially now that you're lost and terrified of making things worse. I'm sorry your stalker turned out to be Lucy. Don't give up and give in, no matter how dark it seems.
- On the reverse of that, Sam spitting out the blood and kicking ass and taking names. I wouldn't've minded him hulking out on the blood (the only time I ever mind seeing Jared Padalecki hulk out is when Dean's face gets damaged), but I was proud of him and his willpower. Sam, you are not a monster, even though you think you are.
- The fanservice.
- Jared Padalecki's beautiful acting this season.
- Lucifer having a crush on Sam.
Things That Made Me Sad:
- Dean convincing himself he's better off. I'm glad he feels freer without the burdens of guilt and responsibility, that probably for the first time he feels like his own person. It's good for his character development but also so heartbreaking to see. And Dean doesn't actually deal with loneliness well, even if he convinces himself at first that he's fine. I'm glad Castiel was giving him the hairy eyeball over that.
- The weird angry lines thrown at Raphael, which made me mostly uncomfortable because of racedumb awareness.
- Lucifer having a crush on Sam.

I really really hope that in the series finale God zaps down in John Winchester's body.

Date: 2009-10-01 02:21 pm (UTC)I really would have been okay if this whole episode was just Dean and Castiel doing human things, Castiel kicking ass and then a little Lucifer love for Sam at the end.
And yes I realize that basically was the whole episode. What I mean to say is that aside from the gratuitous fanservice in Sam's sleeping scenes I would have been fine if they cut out the parts where he has to talk to his bleeding-out-the-gut-dead-girlfriend-that-is-really-lucifer-creeping-in-bed...Mostly because I need Sam to not feel bad about the burning, bleeding, blonds of his past.
Though I was glad to see that rehab did work for Sam. Serena could take a lesson or two from him. And yeah, I think I already told you this, but I was kind of wishing he had swallowed the blood and just beat everyone down with his eyeballs. Yay! for doing it sober though.

Date: 2009-10-01 08:02 pm (UTC)And yeah okay maybe not a vessel but if there's anyone that should show up and say "Good work, sons," YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS.
I will never ever tire of Castiel failing at being normal, but I also like it when he takes names for the stuff he DOES know how to do. I want more lolFBI partner stories.
Better his dead girlfriend than his dead mother with her stomach still dripping blood. HOW DID ANYONE ELSE NOT GET MAJOR CREEPER VIBES WHEN HE HALLUCINATED THAT? I was like "Oh gosh this is so wrong this is so wrong ahhh". But Jessica is such a major character in this show even though she was only in it for like five seconds.
Yeah it would be totally cool to see him hulk out though for now I'm fine that the hulking is only of his *~rippling pectorals~* (that are very firm) than of "Oh crap I am a demon/freak/whatever and I can't resist Lucy's siren song." Though it would be cool if he were totally demon-pwning and such. Hm, dilemma.
As far as burning blonds in the past — as least she's not trying to assassinate him! Unlike other burning blonds in other shows that bear remarkable similarities.
