~an ocean of feelings~

So brother, raise another pint
Rev up the engine and drive off in the night
See you somewhere some place some time
I know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine
- "Brother" (Murder by Death)
I have feelings, but mostly I am overwhelmed by the car porn.
No seriously. I spent most of the episode worrying that I should've adopted an Impala prayer circle icon.
There are things that went my way and things that didn't go my way, and I have so many crazy feelings there's no way I can articulate them properly. In some ways it doesn't feel like I've watched it yet. I'm so confused.
All I know is that I love Sam.
THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH HUGS THIS EPISODE. I'm not sure whether I'm depressed or happy. I think I will remedy it with ridiculous RPF AUs where how I feel about shit is clear-cut one way or the other.
Got a call from my boss, so it looks like this is what I'll be doing with my evening:

Date: 2010-05-14 10:12 am (UTC)FUCK yes. Also: "Rumbrave", a song so directly relevant to 5.04 I can't figure out how to make a fanvid about it without it being all cheap and literal. ALSO also: "Yes", from their latest album. And "Coming Home" is one hell of a Lucifer song. And....
("I'm not obsessed with this band," I said to a friend recently, "they just keep recording songs about stuff I watch.")
In other news, um, hi. I'll be mentioning this in my journal soon, but I am crawling out of my hole. Which means porn, sometime next week. To answer the question you asked me a while back about whether the handprint was going to feature in Song of Songs part 4: hold onto your hat.

ON ANOTHER NOTE, HEY THERE STRANGER! I'm so delighted to see you back with us! And not only that, you're bringing dome of your porn?? What, did Christmas come early or something this year? It hardly needs to be said, but I'll be waiting on tetherhooks for that installment! Is that series looking to be a four-parter or are you finding that there's more of the story to tell?

Date: 2010-05-14 12:38 pm (UTC)Discussions of what Murder by Death is tend to involve a lot of "post-punk" and "alt-country" and other genre terminology that makes my eyes glaze over. Screw that: they are a cowboy rock band, and it is a cowboy rock show, and that is why it's such a perfect marriage.
(Also also also: "That Crown Don't Make You a Prince". I mean, I could go on like this for hours, we both could, and probably mention 95% of the songs in their discography in the process, but that's a hell of a song.)
I'm so delighted to see you back with us!
Holy crap thank God. I'm kind of concerned about getting a lot of "who are you?" and "fuck off, we don't need flakes here", probably due to an inflated sense of my own importance. It's good to talk to you again too. I have missed your hilarious tags.
Is that series looking to be a four-parter or are you finding that there's more of the story to tell?
Originally it was going to be a five-parter, but at this point there will definitely be six parts: five that happen between 4.18 and 4.20 and kind of work with the canon, and an "optional" epilogue set after 5.03 that departs from it irrevocably. (This is not due to me tacking more material onto the end -- parts three and four were originally one part, but I turned out to have a lot of ground to cover and split that stuff into separate encounters.) Of course, given the increasing gaps between installations, there is reason to be concerned that I will die with part six unfinished.

Date: 2010-05-15 12:11 am (UTC)though there are some things I could delete.Talking about genre — at least for music — is not really comprehensive or useful to me since I'm not very systematic in my listening practices. "Cowboy rock band" works fine for me.
And as far as welcoming you back — well, you're no longer allowed to sit at the cool kid's table because you ditched us for so long — no, I can't even keep a straight face. If there were any amends to make, a fic offering would definitely go a long way — but since there aren't, it's just a sweet sweet bonus.
Since you did wander off I have to ask — have you been keeping up with the season?
I'm quite pleased to hear that there's a lot more coming, considering that you're one of the few authors I would like to chain to their own computers. I would have harassed you more in that interim if I wasn't disconsolately aware that the best creative productions come from labors of love and that if you had broken up with the series or just lost interest excessive nagging would've helped precisely no one.
Despite my internal six-year-old stomping its foot and whining "But you swore." Thankfully, I've spent enough time in various fandoms to be able to (mostly) muzzle the brat.

George R. R. Martin, is that you? In that case, it would probably best to include "in the event of my death, _______ will be licensed to complete my sexually explicit treatises of fictional characters based on a little known TV show" in your will then.

In fits and starts, yes. I'm all caught up now, but, for example, watched 5.16-20 in a single shot (having dreadlocks results directly in TV hoarding, and I don't watch much other TV). Without the impetus of "oh shit if I don't catch up somebody's tag summary is going to spoil me" I have not been on the ball. Three solid hours of Supernatural a couple of weeks ago resulted directly in me hammering out 3,500 words of pornography in a week and change, though, so this is not all bad.

Please, talk about how good my fic is some more. I'm listening. No, really, it's okay!
I have broken up with series before (I was in HP fandom for a while, for example, and broke up with it halfway through book seven) but it would take a hell of a lot to put me off Supernatural. Season six could be a shitfest to rival, I don't even know. What's some really bad television? It could be the televisual equivalent of Atlanta Nights and I would continue happily writing AUs and season four/five stories until I simply ran out of ways to say "he came super hard". Oh, that's a good one. I should write that down.
There are a couple of things at work here, which I am now going to tell you about whether you like it or not. There are two, maybe three characters in all of fiction I have identified with the way people seem to mean when they say "identified with", and Castiel is one of them. (The other two are Laurence Waterhouse from Cryptonomicon and occasionally Wednesday from American Gods. I reread both of these books about once yearly.) And numerous, numerous aspects of the show and its setting are apparently purpose-built to preoccupy me. I will never get done thinking about Supernatural. Contrast this with the Potter books, where after a point you have to stop thinking or your brain leaks out of your ears, because there is no rigor in the worldbuilding.
it would probably best to include "in the event of my death, _______ will be licensed to complete my sexually explicit treatises of fictional characters based on a little known TV show" in your will then.
