I hacked my program file on Saturday so that I'd be able to use Final Cut again, and since then I've been in the midst of working frantically to recontextualize narratives and try not to freak out overly much. However while my enthusiasm for it on Saturday probably helped power the entire coast, I got far enough into it that I started running into ideological balance issues and narrative congruity and unfortunately now I have to access my brain and make sure I'm saying what I definitely want to say. Too bad the ending of S5 is extremely frustrating in delivering a lot of the stuff I wanted delivered. But that's okay, because screw you I will take the text and run with it.

That being said, barring any fits of creative rage I have most of the structure worked out and the dramatis personae are all making their appearances, most of the music marked off and a general theme going on.

When the waveforms aren't cooperating or I don't quite have the right set of frames for a clip, at least I have Castiel's stupid mug to stare at. While he's staring back. Creeper.

Blanket warning this entry (and probably many many more after) has season 5 spoilers, but since it's been a week I'm not going to lj cut. Apologies to anyone who's behind in their watching and gets spoiled by me.

and I guess I just wanted to tell you
as the lights start to fade
that you are the reason
that I am not afraid

and I guess I just wanted to mention
as the heavens will fall
we will be together soon
if we will be anything at all.

Spoilers for 5x22, but likely ones that you've run into at this point )

ETA. I stared at this entry and started feeling like a dick for not cutting it. But at some point I'm going to just talk about aired episodes of season five the way I do of all the other seasons.

Dean: "I'm tired, Sam. I'm tired of this job. This life. This weight on my shoulders, man, I'm tired of it."

Sam: "So you're just going to give up? You're just going to lay down and die?"

I think it's significant that the only time we've ever met Michael was in a place where we could also hang out with our old friend Uriel. If [livejournal.com profile] starandrea turns out to be right about this, I'll be pretty damn happy.

Take one down, put it in the ground, ninety-eight problems of the apocalypse on the wall.

There's a lot of people bitching about What Dean Said in 5.17, and I just want to ask them "Are you paying attention?" Besides the fact that deflecting with humor about how great it is to vent anger by killing evil things being Dean's complete M.O., notice that the episode ended with spoilers for 5.17 )

I've only watched these promos for 5.18, but you know the last one? I could've sworn I've read this fic before. Of course that was written back in season 4, but fandom can be remarkably prescient at times.

You know, my episode reactions tend to be more geared to fandom reactions of episode reactions. And heh, iTunes, I love it when you're so on point.

The Dark Side of the Moon was very quintessentially a Supernatural episode, which without giving away anything to those who've yet to watch it, I found fabulous in a similar vein as The Song Remains the Same/Back to the Future II (I'm very attached to its former name, so sue me) only moreso.

At the same time it makes me want to slit my wrists and wallow in my junkie!Castiel playlist, which is 100% songs about heroin and disenchantment. 5x16: I loved it, now I desperately want fic to make me feel better. But yes I want them all to group hug.

In an attempt to not end up dead in a bathroom, instead I've been listening to my Dark Side of the Moon inspired playlist with songs including but not limited to:

Everybody Hurts Helping Haiti
You Are Loved (Don't Give Up) Josh Groban
Hallelujah feat. Charlie Sexton Justin Timberlake
Keep Holding On Glee Cast
I Got You Leona Lewis

Again I reformatted my style, because obviously I have a long attention span. Now might be a good time to point out that because of real life obligations I'm rather drunk at the moment (in before drunk!post!!11!!21) so malfunctioning shit will have to be fixed when I am more clear-eyed.

Today I had a dream nightmare about Ianto Jones forcing Dean Winchester to square dance. It was quite horrifying.

I was reading Wikipedia at work, like you do, maybe had a slight heart attack when I ran into this:
[Jimmy] Page was commissioned to write the soundtrack music for the film Lucifer Rising...

...

I guess we know where that title comes from now, as well as Kripke's ideal casting for GOD.

My hope is that he names the series finale "Ramble On" (or, naturally, "Carry On My Wayward Son"). And not, you know, "Achilles Last Stand" or some equivalent.

Dear fandom, I don't think 'enochian' means what you think it means )

I'm really digging epic apocalyptic awesome that is this show. All the other shows have been "We must stop the apocalypse!" while this show is all "No, we are doing the apocalypse and it's going to be awesome even if we have no money after paying our stars we have a budget. But I must totally commend the writers and crew for how much is happening offscreen but still feeling reasonable. In some ways, I think this season is going to be a lot like Cloverfield — minus of course the ridiculously expensive stunts, cgi-work, set work, and the nausea-inducing unsteady camerawork.

In some ways I prefer this method of storytelling, because it forces the writers to be more clever and character-focused, only throwing in side-details when they can. That being said, everyone who's ever complained about the effects in this show can go directly to hell — do not pass go do not pick up your brother's soul — because the set work, the makeup work, and yes, the cgi work continues to dress to impress considering their budget.

Even as a Buffy fan, most of the "demons" in that universe I had a heard time taking seriously as demons — they could've been aliens with strange skin issues going for drinks in Sunnydale instead of Tatooine's cantina — with one big notable exception, though she didn't show up until nearly the end. Whereas Supernatural constantly creates and relieves tension in a narratively feasible way, while linking the history of the show so that every new episode remains relevant.

But whatever, people'll be hatin'.

In other news, Misha Collins keeps making Twitter explode with his 23k bulls in the china shop. I am amused that the new terms of service seem to stem directly from this corner of fandom, ha.
